Chairman retires after long service
After almost 18 years as Chairman of the UK committee of Albella Boys home during which time he also served as Administrator and for a time treasurer and latterly as chairman of Friends of Albella Boys Home Darjeeling. Dr. John Morris has retired from that position. The committee members wished to mark those years of faithful and dedicated service with a thanks presentation to John. We held a collection between the committee members and we presented John and Mary with a gift card from a local garden centre. Under John’s leadership we have seen the boys home and the UK arm of the charity grow from small beginnings to now a registered charity in its own right. “We wish John and Mary a fruitful retirement, while still caring for their handicapped grandson and giving talks about his latest book in Waterstones/Amazon: Suffering: if God exists, why doesn’t he stop it? www.contemporarycreed.org.uk
Albella New school year
The new school year has commenced and we will say goodbye to some boys with new boys coming to fill those vacancies. This is also a time when some boys do not return as their families consider them now old enough to be the breadwinner for the family. We hope that all the boys return and be able to complete their education which will give them better opportunities in their adult life.
The water supply to Albella is now restricted to 30 minutes every three days, this has forced the home to buy water from tanker deliveries. Heshron writes “We have submitted another application to the water works department for two more pipelines but so far we’ve not heard from them. We’ve been buying water in trucks at least twice a week. We’ll be ok once the rainy season start which is not till mid June. Still a few months to go. Let us hope that everything is going to be fine. Please do continue to pray for the water crisis”.
This is a situation that is difficult for us to comprehend in UK as we are blessed with a constant supply of fresh healthy drinking water.
